-------------------------------
Hey! This thing doesn't work!!
-------------------------------
Q: When a user starts to download The batch file starts, but then
aborts saying "Bad Command or Filename"
A: You need a copy of DSZ.COM or DSZ.EXE in your DOS path, or in the
same directory as your BLIST.EXE file.
Q: When my users try to download, I don't even get the .BAT file at
all! I only get the "Bad Command or Filename" Message and nothing
else!
A: Your .BAT files are probably out of place. They need to be in the same
directory as BLIST.EXE.
Q: When my callers go to download, DSZ says that there is "no such
file or directory" and the transfer aborts. The BBSLIST file is in
place, I checked it!
A: You probably don't have PKPAK.EXE in place. It must be in your DOS
path, or in the same directory as BLIST.EXE.
Q: When a user exits the door, I get two "Bad command or filename"
messages and a "file not found". What's up?
A: If you want your BBSLIST sorted, you have to have a sorting program
in your DOS path or in the same directory as BLIST.EXE. The BLIST
has lines in it to run SORTF.COM by Vern Buerg. If you have another
sort program handy, even SORT.EXE that comes with DOS, you can just
edit the sort lines in the BLIST file and all should be fine. If
you don't care to have the file sorted, just delete the lines that
refer to sorting in BLIST.
Q: I can't find some of the files that you don't include. I've got
DSZ.COM, but can't find PKUNPAK.EXE or SORTF.COM. What should I do?
A: If you can't find these files locally, you can get them from my BBS
at (818) 896-4015.
Q: Every time my callers add a BBS to the list, I see a "Bad Command
or Filename" message. How come?
A: You probably have the sorting switch (line 2 in BLIST.CNF) set to
Y. This makes Blist run BLSORT.BAT which sorts the list. If
BLSORT.BAT isn't on the same directory as BLIST.EXE then you'll get
that message. Also, if you are running an unmodified BLSORT.BAT
you need to have SORTF.COM by Vern Buerg in the same directory.
Q: I'm using SORTF with BLSORT.BAT to sort my list whenever a caller
ads new boards to the list. All of a sudden, it dosen't work
anymore. It looks like SORTF is aborting. What should I do?
A: You probably have such a large list that you are running out of
memory. If you are running a multi-tasker and can afford to give
your PCBoard partition more memory, try that. If not, then you
will either need to edit your list down a bit, or turn the sorting
switch on line 2 of BLIST.CNF off. Once it's turned off, add the
sorting commands from BLSORT.BAT into your batch file that runs the
BLIST door (probably called BLIST on your \PCB directory). Put the
commands between the line that says: BLIST BLIST.CNF \PCB and the
line that says: CD\PCB. This will cause the list to be sorted in
the time between where BLIST exits and PCBoard takes over. At this
moment you have the largest amount of available RAM. If your list
is STILL too big, then you are probably going to have to import it
into a database and sort it like that, manually.
Q: I can't find SORTF on any of the local BBS's. What can I do?
A: You could call me at The Ledge and get it, or you can use almost
any sort program. Just change the commands in BLSORT.BAT to ones
compatible with the sort program you are going to use. I suggest
SORTF because it's small, fast, and reliable. Whatever you do,
DON'T USE SORT.EXE FROM YOUR DOS DISKETTE! I tried it on a very
large (300K) BBS List and it truncated the file to 0K. SORTF and
most other sort programs will abort gracefully without distroying
your list.
Q: When I upgraded from BBSLIST 1.1 to BBSLIST 1.2 my downloads
stopped working. What gives?
A: You have to replace your BLISTx.BAT files with the new x.BAT files
provided with BLIST12.ARC.
Q: I also run your TextView door. Now that you've renamed the
download batch files to the same names as the files, they
over write the ones for Tview. Do I need to run these in different
directories? I hope not becasue I like to keep all my door programs
in one place.
A: The download batch files for BList and TView are exactly the same.
The reason I re-did them was so that I wouldn't have to have a
double set on my own directories.
Q: TextView always reports "0 cps and 0 errors" after a successful
download.
A: You may be using old download batch files. Update your X.BAT, Y.BAT,
Z.BAT, etc. files with the ones distributed with the current
BLIST.EXE.
Q: My PCBoard Call waiting screen dosen't have the correct
information on who last called if the user hangs up inside the
BBSList door!
A: You must have the name and path of your PCBSTATS.DAT file
defined in the BLIST.CNF file. You must also have a copy of
CDC's PCBSTATS.EXE in your DOS path. PCBSTATS.EXE is
distributed with PCBoard.
Q: I'm not running PCBoard 14.5, so there is no PCBSTATS.DAT
file. What do I do?
A: Leave the line that points to that file in BLIST.CNF blank.
Other problems? Please report them to me on The Ledge PCboard (818)
